Guatemala
There's far too much to say in one blog, but this beautiful country is definitely not one to miss.

Adventuring Acatenango in Antigua
|
Fuego Volcano erupting |
Antigua (
the city, not the Caribbean island Dad) is a beautiful colonial town with colourful buildings, great markets,
terrible nachos, and the famous
Acatenango volcano hike.
People will tell you this is the hardest thing they've ever done in their life, and yes, it was hard, but if I can manage it anyone can.
Struggling up the 3600+m / 12000+feet of ashy volcano was so so worth it when we made it to camp and got to watch a thunderstorm and erupting Feugo Volcano from up in the clouds, singing
Fernando by ABBA round the bonfire with our ball-of-energy guide Fernando.

San Pedro Piercings in Lake Atitlan
|
Lake Atitlan |
Beautiful lake surrounded by, you guessed it, more volcanoes.
There are lots of little towns around the lake but we stayed in San Pedro, (🏡 -
Mr Mullet's), and spent the few days cliff jumping, exploring and getting piercings (s
orry Angela).
Semuc Champey
|
Semuc Champey and pals |
Praised as being better than Krka in Croatia, Semuc Champey has beautiful stepped pools. Do a one day tour with your hostel (🏡-
Zephyr Lodge) and you'll also explore the amazing underground caves by candlelight.

Taking Tikal

Tikal Mayan Ruins Great Plaza |
|
Los Amigos Hostel |
Chichen Itza in Mexico may be the more famous Mayan ruins, but Tikal is great for a more peaceful day exploring (the crowds of tourists are
much smaller, especially early in the morning)
🏡-
Los Amigos - staying here in Flores is a
must. Beautiful oasis of a hostel with the best Dutch patatje oorlog (potato wedges with satay sauce, mayo and onions - incred) (
If it ain't Dutch it ain't much)
